As part of our work to develop local capacity in the countries where we operate, Tullow Kenya organised a trip to Oman for members of Kenya’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and local leaders from Turkana County.
The delegation visited the Petroleum Development in Muscat, which included a number of oil fields and facilities. The trip provided opportunities for the Kenyan leaders to see a successful oil producing asset in operation.
In particular, they were able to deepen their understanding of the technical, operational, safety and environmental management processes of the Petroleum Development. They also gained first hand insights into critical issues such as land access and the scale of the infrastructure that is needed to develop onshore oil installations, as well as how the industry manages risks effectively. The delegation that attended said that the experience was very helpful in their work to develop Kenya’s oil and gas sector.
This was a great initiative by Tullow. It is what the Turkana leaders need, to learn and understand the challenges and opportunities that the industry presents.
