French Guiana Operations and Licences
Operations
French Guiana is a
Département
(overseas territory) of France, located on the north-eastern coast
of South America between Suriname and Brazil.
Tullow previously held a 97.5% interest in the Guyane Maritime
licence which covers 35,221 sq km. During 2009, Tullow began the
process of farming down some of its interest and Shell (33%) and
Total (25%) are now partners in the block which Tullow operates
with a 39.5% interest. In September 2009, a large 3D seismic
programme began, focussing on 3,000 sq km in the eastern section of
the licence.
A number of leads and prospects have been identified from existing 2D seismic which includes the giant Matamata structural trap in the north and a number of stratigraphic traps analogous to Tullow’s Jubilee field in Ghana in the south of the block. Following the completion of the new 3D seismic programme early in 2010, Tullow aims to mature some of the leads into prospects with the first well possibly being drilled at the end of 2010.
