Gabon
Operations
Tullow currently has interests in 16 licences in Gabon, including twelve producing fields. With net oil production averaging 11,900 bopd in the first half of 2009, Tullow’s Gabon production accounts for around 20% of the Group's total. Production is expected to be maintained at this level for the rest of the year. During 2009, Tullow brought on first oil from the Ebouri field and a further 30 development wells are to be drilled on the Tsiengui, Obangue and Oba fields.
In addition to the existing licence interests, Tullow has back-in rights to ten exploration licences. Current activity in these back-in areas is considerable, with at least 12 exploration wells planned in the next 12 months. These licences are located in areas of significant potential and give the Group exposure to almost 40% of Gabon's currently licensed acreage.
Gabon continues to be considered as an area of potentially significant growth within the Tullow portfolio, presenting as it does a range of exploration, development, commercial and acquisition opportunities. These opportunities will be continually and actively assessed during 2009 and beyond.
