Continuing our support of the Noluthandu School for the Deaf

For the past
11 years, Tullow’s Cape Town office has supported the
Noluthando School for the Deaf, based in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.
This school caters for 182 pupils between the ages of three and 21
years old, most of whom have minimal or no hearing and come from
disadvantaged backgrounds. The school also offers vocational skills
training including welding, hairdressing, panel-beating and spray
painting, hospitality training, bricklaying and sewing. This
year’s donation of US$18,500 will pay the salaries of the
eight deaf educator-assistants who assist the children via sign
language during their early years at the school. This vital work
helps the children to learn speech and develop vocabulary and
without which it is unlikely that they would be able to communicate
effectively.
