Working with Education Alive in South Africa’s Townships

Education Alive is an organisation that has been operating in South Africa for over 30 years, supporting local schools in the various Townships, developing improved teaching methods and providing teaching materials. Tullow’s Cape Town office has supported Education Alive since 1999 and last year ran a three-day workshop with Education Alive for children of Tullow staff at the Cape Town office. The workshop was attended by 16 children between 8 and 17 years of age, and was designed to improve core subjects such as Maths and English. Feedback from the parents of attendees has been very positive, highlighting that students are now more able to work on their own with a better understanding of exactly what they are studying. This workshop was so well received that Tullow parents have requested we run another in 2007.
