Uganda wins ethical supply chain award at the East African CSR Awards 2012

Winner: “Closing the Gap Programme” – Tullow Uganda Operations

Tullow Uganda has won the award for “Most Responsible & Ethical Supply Chain” at the East African CSR Awards in April this year.  The awards showcase companies that go beyond compliance with legal requirements to integrate social and environmental values into their management strategies.

Tullow was recognised for their “Closing the Gap” programme, which so far has awarded contracts to over 550 Ugandan-owned companies supplying services or goods, representing over 50% of our suppliers. These suppliers cover a wide range of services such as catering, mechanical, transport services and security to name just a few.

Tullow’s commitment to ‘Creating Shared Prosperity’ is the philosophy that drives our ethical and responsible business practices in the company’s supply chain. Tullow has helped local businesses to grow and develop through a number of different initiatives, including hosting forums and seminars, creating a dedicated supplier website, offering training opportunities for current suppliers to raise standards, and ensuring that Local Content Managers participate in all contract review meetings.

This is not the first time that Tullow has been recognised by the committee, as in 2010 the company won the “Most Sustainable & Scalable Community Investment” award for our Kaiso-Tonya programme – a community driven project to improve infrastructure, health, education and natural resource management in the area.
